What Once Was Song

I look into the mirro
My reflection stares back at me
I look deep into myself
all I saw was who I once was
A child that did so much
A war child many followed

Looking in to my reflection's eyes I see:
I am shattered
Once I was heard
Once I was loved
Once I was praised
But now.....

What once was song
Is now just screams

Ripped apart by war
Pains of death weigh upon my soul
So many dead in my name

What once was song
Is now just screams

I live in the shadow of death
If only I wasn't so blind
Many died because of me
Their blood forever on my hands

What once was song
Is now just screams

They loved me so
Followed my every lead
In one slip of mind
Their lives were taken

What once was song
Is now just screams

I now just sit here
Broken in mind
The memories of that day
Tortured me forever

What wonce was song
Is now just screams

They are gone forever
Because I was naive
Because I was blind
All because of me..

Author notes

I used the prompt from the shadows for this piece I know it's kinda different from what might have been expected

    Powerful poem.

Yes, powerful poem. Images captured; well done.
    The lines:

    Ripped apart by war
Pains of death weigh upon my soul
So many dead in my name

    is great.

deeply dark and intense take on that prompt. A little longer than the word limit called for but well done nonetheless!!
