Windows of uglier homes
erupt twice as often,
even if only to syphon the uninvited
tiny children
who leave fingerprints
of melting ice cream sandwiches
much like the footprints a muddy faerie might make
every night sneaking out
through the optimistically unlocked portals in time
to a place where my prayers are answered
instead of hers.
