Knowing

The summer that brought you together
was full of ease and warmth.
It was bright with the fire of your love
that burned through the background
of the midnight blue sky.
You would sit on the tufts of grass
that persisted their growth through the sand
and feel your heartbeat next to hers.
You would put your face next to hers
just to feel the heat,
and knew she was as perfect as a human could get.
At the end of everything you refused to feel the loss
and decided to remember the candles and the kisses,
the long nights spent together
and the days you never wanted to spend apart.
Some things like this will last inside your memory
forever.

Author notes

I got most of this from a dream I had. I wanted to get this down in writing somehow and this contest kind of filled out what my muse was missing. I used all the words in word bank #2. Thank you for the inspiration.

This is really beautiful and sweet. I love how it opens, and I'm amazed by how you word everything. It's so perfect. Even the title is a perfect fit without feeling redundant after reading the poem. Great poem!
