Bird Without Wings

So many have tried, so many have failed
To tame this caged up bird
But she always seems to find a way
To make her song be heard

This one was different, for he had a song
A sweet melody to her ears
She sat on his shoulder...mesmerized
Forgetting to hold to her fears

With that sweet gentle voice and that soft fingered touch
She submitted to his every demand
She fell too fast, didn't look in his eyes
As she placed her heart in his hand

Day by day his hand would close up
To subtle for her to see
She wouldn't have noticed for he was her hero
The one who had set her free

Then the voice that held her in a daze
Became loud and spoke in a new tone
He even put her in a cage sometimes
With her heart in his hand, she was alone

She slowly woke from the dream that felt real
And found herself on her knees
Did you ever really love me at all
Or was this all just to appease

To bring me in, break down my walls
So I would hang on your every word
Just another one of your conquests
You tamed the untamable bird

Ok I'm broken, I have nothing left
No will to break out and fly
I gave you my heart and loved you so much
Now all I can do is cry

Just let me go, cant you see what your doing
You've taken the worst of things
My ability to live my life on my own
Now I am a bird without wings
