“What a beautiful day!”
Inane words that fill the
void when reluctance
to speak your heart
forces your real feelings
into the pit of your
stomach…
As usual, you were silent.
“How about them Sox?”
My attempted humor
falls on ears that don’t hear.
“Well, it’s getting late
and I need to go” I say
as I brush a brittle leaf
off of the stone that
marks your… what?
Final resting place?
Repository of earthly
remains?
There are words I need
to say but can you hear
them? Does it matter?
It matters to me…
“I love you and miss you, Dad.”

I can relate to this, unfortunatly. And of course, there's nothing you can ever really say to express your emotions.

I have stood at my dad's grave many a time.....with the same reaction. I usually say to him, "I hope I have not disappointed you too much".

Heartrending!
I don't even have a grave to visit. My mother has my father remains next to her bed. We never had a service for him but i pray for his soul and talk to him all the time. I know he hears me. I miss him too!
Sincerely
Jennifer
