when the mercury is hunkered down in its bulb
the wind doesn't just bite, it devours you whole
you shiver and convulse and try to stay moving
to keep the blood flowing
lest it turn to ice
there's no refuge or shelter
to restore and recover
just an endless white blanket of blankness
draining the life out of you
trying to smother you in its loveless embrace
comatose feet refuse to tramp further
just sit for a minute and regain some strength...
that minute flows into 5 then 10
your carcass ceases shaking, the verve pump awakens
delightful marvels pop in and out of your dream box
and soon you belong to this world no more
