There’s a new kind of quiet
much louder than sound
a speechless empty
a nameless void,
song that left the sparrow’s throat
storm behind the sun
invisible blade
through the heart,
a colorless dream
this missing view
a mist wherein,
a patch of you.
but now there is much more-
unrestrained, your walk,
laughter with tears
a wisdom left at death’s door
a subtle whisper echoing
love I never knew.
Refrain
Let heaven speak my grieving prayer
until the day I meet you there.
much louder than sound
a speechless empty
a nameless void,
song that left the sparrow’s throat
storm behind the sun
invisible blade
through the heart,
a colorless dream
this missing view
a mist wherein,
a patch of you.
but now there is much more-
unrestrained, your walk,
laughter with tears
a wisdom left at death’s door
a subtle whisper echoing
love I never knew.
Refrain
Let heaven speak my grieving prayer
until the day I meet you there.

This poem has had a strong affect on me, it is a beautifully composed piece, and it holds an incredible amount of feeling...a siblings death causes a painful broken heart...I am experiencing this with the death of my brother...I find like you, writing poetry helps in a huge way and I like to read how others write about the same painful loss...
You have tenderly expressed your love and grief for your dear sister, this is quite a poem
You have been Hood-Winked by a Poetic Bandit
May God bless you for writing this verse...

Beloved Dianne ...
to see the physical pain of someone terminal, leaves its immense emotional sorrow ... and the wonderment is: when death comes with its new gain in heaven, the loss for us who stay behind is bearable, in that we know in the Afterlife all suffering and tears are gone!
Your Author notes added so beautifully to the solace of this divine poem. Thank you for sharing with us not only your joy, but also your grief.
Love

Such a touching sentiment. It really warms the heart. I think your sister must have been someone very special.

Grieving is part of what makes the departed still live. It is not a sad proposition, but one that leaves those left behind to encounter both memories and the realization that we are indeed still here without the familiar. I am one who hates change with a passion. So I am always in the tracks with the train coming at me. After it is gone by I sit and shake my head wondering what hit me, and why I am sitting stunned at the side of those tracks. Knowing you from your writing I would believe you are far beter equipped to handle those changes than I. If I were to lose Sandra today, the effects would not bode well with me to say the least. This piece has shaken me to the core as I must prepare being the youngest for the enivietable. Awaiting that silence, your friend. RC

Cookie, you have written your pain into poetry that is beautiful. I cannot imagine how it feels to lose a sister (I have one and may know one day) but I do know how it feels to lose a loved one and ache this way. Bless you and your sister, who will be there to help you cross over.
I love the first stanza. It says so very much about loss.

It is a very hard thing to loose someone and then to release your feelings outloud. Yet you do find a comfort with this release and then to find that others too have been there also. I can relate with your grief and can only hope that you find a comfort as I have found in the words that you have written so well. Prayers to you of comfort..thanks for sharing
