When I was young and innocent
The world seemed like a brighter place
But life distorts our best intentions
And I lost myself along the way
Until I couldn't see beyond wraiths that blocked my way
(Pushing me away)
If I had a guiding light
I'd find the will to fight
And break through these lies!
If I could learn to forget
If I could learn to forgive
Lay aside my regret
And learn to live
If demons bar my passage
If darkness clouds my way
I'll clear aside the wreckage
And seize the day
In the wake of all my suffering
An angel offered to guide my way
And though she caught me, time and time again
When I fell backwards, she would say
The trials of this life will test the faith in your soul
(But stay in control)
Even with my guiding light
You need the will to fight
To break through these lies!

I can't tell you enough how much I love your poetry. This one is one of my favorites, I think.

It's one of my favorites too. It was very healing for me at the time, and still is in some respects.
