Snatch back your hand, I don’t want it this time.
You’ve made me strong, now stand back and see,
The monster that you always wanted me to be.
Lift up the chin, straighten the spine,
The Perfect soldier, the Warrior divine.
Didn’t you bargain on me making it through?
Surviving your tests, your impossible tasks?
Am I worthy now? What’s more, do you want me?
I’m telling you now, you’ve no right to deny,
What you’ve made, you’ve unleashed,
The lovely disaster that’s standing here now.
I look back at you with cold, frozen eyes,
And breathe in your fear. Isn’t this what
You wanted, my own cringing love?
I’m remade for you, but I’m not sure why.
I don’t think I like it; I don’t understand.
With fresh eyes, I see you.
I think I still love you, but I can’t be certain.
It’s a shadow, a whisper, of what we once had.
You can’t save me again, I won’t let you now.
Smell the tear tracks, the salt in the air,
A last kiss goodbye, it’s bitter, not sweet.
This must be farewell, we’re ill-suited, now.
You made me who I am, and I’m grateful for that,
But I can’t love you now. I see you anew, and you
Sicken me. What was wrong with the girl that I used to be,
That you saw the need to create me anew.
I’m sure that I will understand someday,
but that day’s not today. So the road is ahead,
and I refuse to look back. Standing tall ‘gainst the wind,
this fair Soldier has now to leave you in her wake.
