Lost Smiles

A passing glance, a sightless smile.
You can’t see me anymore.
I walk down pathways in the dark.
You’re far away, behind closed doors.
I’m lost inside a maze,
The walls never stay the same.
I walk into my heart which once was yours.

You stare at empty space
With a smile on your face.
This new world that you can see,
In which you hide yourself from me.
My heart beats on unworried,
But my mind can’t find its quarry.
I'm running through this maze of tattered lace.

A fragile heart is made of string
And other fragile breakable things.
Your words would cut so very deep,
But you don’t know beneath your sleep.
Empty words with fallen grace.
Empty smiles that scar my heart.
I walk alone, we're worlds apart.

You pass me by, and speak no word.
I call you, but you never turn.
Has your name changed?
Do you not hear my voice?
Or do you simply make the choice,
To scar my heart behind closed doors?
Do I know you anymore?
