Opening Night

Fear,
Buzzing through your body
Eating at your stomach
Making you feel sick.
Silence,
It’s your time.
You slowly emerge onto the stage
You look at the millions of eyes staring at you
Expectantly.
Waiting for excellence.
You open your mouth
The first line comes as a force
But then the block is gone
And the river is free.
Your mind becomes lost in a never-ending maze
And your heart takes control
Leaping, jumping, and wowing the world.
Your floating now
Up above the clouds
You watch yourself
But you aren’t you
Your Minnie, Tessie, Annie or Jane
You play a part
A character
But as the last line falls off your lips you smile
A smile that could keep you happy forever
The applause is tremendous
You capture your body again and return to your mind as you exit.
You watch from behind as the next character appears with silence as her audience and fear as her enemy.
But as expected she starts her first line
And the rest is history.
