The Truth about Beauty

Beauty does not lie
in perfection-
in bodies chiseled down
to the bone or surgically
enhanced features.

It dwells in one’s flaws-
in what makes us human
and not mannequins
with porcelain skin
and plastered smiles.

It is found in our quirks,
in freckles and curves
and in a character so
exuberant, it makes
the physical trivial.

Confidence is what
makes someone attractive;
self-esteem worn over
any color or shape is
the truest ideal of beauty.

Your words are so true. I have always said that you have to love yourself before anyone else ever will. Yesterday me and my man had our portrait done and he didn't smile because he has a tooth missing and I told him that that missing tooth is one of the things that makes him so cute to me.

Love the message in this well-written poem.
    It dwells in one’s flaws-
    in what makes us human
    and not mannequins
And I agree with you and Faithbound, that confidence makes someone more attractive!

I've got a quote on my page that this reminds of. Your flow here was very smooth. Nicely done.

      "Confidence makes a girl sexy."?

How did you know I had just read that on your page as I was writing this. I'm a big fan of yours

I recently noticed some of your contests. When I am interested in entering a contest I usually read the judges work. This way I get a feel for the type of writing they enjoy. Thank you for such a kind reply. I appreciate it.
