It was a hard fall into Autumn;
into you & sea-green eyes that stared
into the soul of me.
We were like lovers who had never
loved before. You a modern day Romeo
& I not quite Juliet.
I remember we walked softly, hand
in hand, on hard of earth. Leaves gently
crunching beneath the weight of us.
Today I walk alone.
The leaves have abandoned
the realm of love; left
to wither in the breeze.
That same south wind that claimed
the keeping of hearts.
