Here I stand in water,
listening to the voice
in my head.
I see my shadow.
I am greater than my shadow.
The sky is greater than its reflection.
The five sticks, greater than their slant,
are there,
but my voice cannot tell me why.
Life is love.
Love is no mistake.
I'm standing here in this water,
waiting for my mate.
When she arrives,
I will be vigilant.
I will watch for man
while she eats fry
then she will keep an eye
out
while I
partake.
Please tell me what you think

I love standing in water watching the cranes and herons. I haven't seen many blue herons but tons of great whites. this poem takes me to the coast.
I love the subtle rhyme scheme...and the subtle metaphor. very good poem!

travis,
I see more blue herons than great whites, but I enjoy watching both species. You always find my Rudy's rhyme, friend. I appreciate you...

The Blue Heron is such a majestic bird...I love how you've used it as a metaphor here. There is such depth in this write. Enjoyed!

Thank you so much Jersene... I agree with you that the blue heron is majestic...
Also glad the metaphor worked for you...

I always find poems interesting when we use the POV of animals or whatever & use it as a metaphor or analogy to our own lives, we can find out a lot about ourselves as humans that way...well, I see that going on in this poem, anyways...lol..beautiful write.
