Our distance is defined by the people
We spend our separation with:
You, quarantined with family,
Away from those that make a life;
Me, in isolation despite
Being surrounded by my friends.
Standing still while time around us
Changes seems futile, but we’ll try.
Fatigue serves only to enhance
My sense of longing: I want to
Lie with you and share secrets that
We don’t have, get lost in covers,
Indulge ourselves without pretence
Of false sincerity. Huddled,
We’d defy expectations and
Watch each other with neither eye.
