Soldiers Of Missfortune

There desire to share the story,
with bragging rights of pride and glorry.
Not knowing of their perilous decision,
willing to go in to lands of perdition.
Not quite examining the cost,
proud of innocence they lost.
Want so bad to pull that trigger,
with every kill their confidence grows bigger.
Going off to train,
to lose their indevidual brain.
My dear friend have you lost your mind,
your life you say is redefined.
With the snap of a finger,
a push of a button,
you say your future is set.
To sacrifice it all,
you're bowing down to a major threat.
No that I support your vision,
I support your dream.
So go on take another life,
and watch your loved ones scream.
Please don't misinterpret me,
these words come from my heart.
This poems about 2 blessed souls,
that soon shall fall apart.

Author notes

My dearest friend calls me with excited news, "Brandon, I'm going in to the marine core." Please, it's not that I don't believe that nothing's worth fighting for, but my dear mature friend can often times be a naiive 19 year old.
I have to say, he's my best friend, I'll support him in anything he does, but if your main reason for doing something is because of pride and glorry, and because others said you couldn't do it, doesn't make it right.
Go on, tell me that this isn't my greatest work, go on, in my eyes this is. This is the most sorrowful heartfelt poem ever. Here's to 12 years that will probably soon disappear, and yes the title's based on the Filter song.
I support the troops but it isn't for anyone and I hope to god he doesn't read this because it'll only make him want to do it more.
Thanks fer reading, from a broken shocked BC.

Do you think I overstepped my boundaries? Am I wrong to feel this way?

Patriotism is a two edged sword while its important to support the welfare and laws of a nation. Is it always wise to always trust the ones who create and guard the welfare and laws? Its one thing to go to the aid of a friend another to play world policemen, when you don't have the backing of the rest of the world. unfortunatly young men will always be drawn to the thrill of war this in most only lasts a short time and the trill leaves quickly the others I just worry about!

An interesting illusion the young seems to live in.

The scariest things about it, are when the person in question's motives aren't clear, and when they seem to give them it plays both sides of the fence.
Whether a thrill seaker or a dedicated marine, you're never going home the same again. So many people want to be the prodigal son, wearing disguises of deception, to be tough, strong, able to handle anything.
The worst kind of attention seeker. Those with the highest kind of deathwish. Perhaps in some weird way this is a good idea. Something to show these naiive "prodigals" that their triumph and glorry doesn't add up to the illusional number they had in mind.
Actions and words are hollow if one doesn't use them and do them for internal purposes.
      Thanks, really appreciate the feedback.

  • Wow. No, it's never wrong to feel anyway. You can't control your emotions. This is a wonderful piece and yet another one full of hard core emotion. You're an amazing writer with great talent. I'm honored to be reading such things.

I really hope you learn to feel better about the subject and understand your friends decisions. I also hope they turn out ok.

Hey, I'll susport anything he does.

Yeah, ui understand everyone's reasoning, but he was on a completely different path a week ago.
Marines aren't something you just wake up one day and decide, yep, this'll be easy no problem.
I have a friend of the site that just left for training last week, the difference with her however is that she spent her highschool days preparing for this.
Pride and pressure get people killed.
I'm not sad, angry, or happy. I really don't know what I am at the moment, and my mother's totally with me on this.
Now, all of the sudden he wants to change his whole train of thought. I don't think I'm wrong to disagree with that logic.
