Can get away any day any way
Just read the strings with fingers
as eager as a blind man's to get lost in the tale.........
Vibrating hum
chest wall thrum
They tell a story of running in the rain
night wind on my face outrunning pain
mistrusting heart throb at the end of the street
wind lifts above it
wings on my feet
Freestyle hair
unkempt mare
can't play a note
song stuck in my throat
freedom feels like paradise, dessert on a stick
all night diner
hot highway rain slick
Following rules
not always for fools
Sometimes eyes meet eyes
tired of goodbyes
wrap me up in fatigue saved from the war
medal in my pocket,
fingers knock at the door
Just read the strings with fingers
as eager as a blind man's to get lost in the tale.........
Vibrating hum
chest wall thrum
They tell a story of running in the rain
night wind on my face outrunning pain
mistrusting heart throb at the end of the street
wind lifts above it
wings on my feet
Freestyle hair
unkempt mare
can't play a note
song stuck in my throat
freedom feels like paradise, dessert on a stick
all night diner
hot highway rain slick
Following rules
not always for fools
Sometimes eyes meet eyes
tired of goodbyes
wrap me up in fatigue saved from the war
medal in my pocket,
fingers knock at the door
Author notes
A friend gave me a Melissa Etheridge CD (I would probably never have bought one of hers on my own) and I popped it in at work. She covers Tom Petty's "Refugee" which I loved (the original) the minute I heard it in the 70's. Awesome rendition from a powerhouse artist. Oh yeah, there was some foot tappin' goin' on this morning.

Wonderful flow
This is like a song.
I really enjoyed this...refreshing and lighthearted!

Wolf thank you, it was inspired by a song, and created a feeling. Thank you for calling it "refreshing" it kind of makes me feel that way when I re-read it too. Thanks for reading.

No need to see the music
I can feel it to my bones
Fingering the strings
Them six and me alone
A universal language
bringing inner harmony
They thought these eyes were silent
and yet, they clearly see...
Have a lovely weekend...

Eddy, thanks for reading and for the great poetic response! Your stands alone, some great phrases there! Good to hear from you and thanks for the comment as always.

I like that you got this from that tune...shows a real side of spontanaiety...and that's what I wanted to see in this contest
I can also see this as lyrical
freedom feels like paradise, dessert on a stick
this line made me think and I wish I had written it...actually I think a contest would do well with that single line as a prompt
excellent entry
peace and hugs
