Jack in the Box

Our little puppy is a joy
we wanted girl but got a boy
now he is here we laugh and play
to give him love is just our way.

He pops about, jack in the box
he steals her bra and chews my socks
he wets the floor and carpet too
but we just smile and whoop hooroo!

Those eyes so large and limpid too
invite you in to worlds so new.
We never knew what pleasure meant
until his bark so heaven sent.

We buy him Chums and other food
he laps it up when in the mood
but play is what he likes the most
apart from bits of Sunday's roast.

Bedtime comes and he's so worn out
with all that play and happy shout.
Too soon we know he'll grow up fast
his love for us will ever last.

Great write. Sounds like a wonderful pet (as most pets are)

    Loved these lines:
"We never knew what pleasure meant
until his bark so heaven sent."

Just captured the joy and beauty of an excitable young pet (or person for that matter.)

"but play is what he likes the most
apart from bits of Sunday's roast."

    This line made me laugh.

"Bedtime comes and he's so worn out
with all that play and happy shout."

And this is how it should be for all of us. Good luck in the contest.

    My favorite lines:
'Those eyes so large and limpid too
invite you in to worlds so new.
We never knew what pleasure meant
until his bark so heaven sent.'

You have me remembering when we got our dog 'chocolate'. She was a lot of fun as a puppy, but for the chewing

The last two lines are touching.

Puppies are great! Its nice though when they do grow out of chewing on everything! Mother nature saw to that! Teething thing! Cute poem my friend. ~Sie
