Feathers littered the quiet roadside.
Cars flew by like angry beams of light
disturbing the unbroken silence
in quick,
thoughtless spasms.
Your mind's eye bled crimson;
its juices
corrupting everything under its control
and in a flash of blazing headlights
you tore them from their sockets
unwincingly.
I had never seen
broken wings
looking so loveless
or a demon
seeming so pure
so I figured I'd offer you a ride back to my place
to see what you would do
for a twenty.
