Play Ball

“Play Ball”, came the awaited call,

As excitement grew for those who sat in the seats.

The windup came, and it was in for a ball.

“Play Ball”, came the awaited call,

Crack of the bat and the player ran to the wall.

And the visiting team went down in defeat.

“Play Ball”, came the awaited call,

As excitement grew for those who sat in the seats.

Author notes

This is an assignment for Refrains class here on AP.

This is for my 7 year old Grandson Logan.
It was inspired by my day with him at his T-Ball game. Where the real fun of the game lies.

Littlespidey (His AP name)-Wind Walker his Cheyenne name. Logan you're Nama's little man. This one's for you.

I can see the love of the game and the joy of the day upon Logan's face. As I am sure he was gladdened by your presence. Oh to know those carefree days of youth again.

Your refrain was a blessing to read, and nicely done.

    I really enjoyed this

I used to coach my son's ball team and I know how excited everyone gets. This read well and showed the pride in your Littlespidey. Thanks for sharing

This was really the first time I got to see him play and he just got a thrill out of the game. He is my little Babe Ruth.

I love the rhyme scheme in this poem. And, as a baseball fan and ex-player, I love the cheery joy while remembering the excitement of Little League. Thumbs up!

Glad you enjoyed the poem and brought back good memories I hope. First time I ever watched this sort of playing. It is a T-Ball league.

Nice write. Looks like a special time. Grandparents are about the most special people in the world (I assume they feel the same about grandchildren) so Logan is lucky to have someone like you around. The poem captures the excitement of sports and specifically baseball on its purest level. Nice job.
