The Two Bears

There were once two teddy bears
Different shades and hues
One shone bright with rich pure gold
And the other bore misty blues.
Both were with no proper name
There were many to consider
The gold one sat in the sun's bright ray
When suddenly it hit her.
"My name should be something bright,"
Said she to her sky-blue friend.
"It should be something happy and light
Whose warmth knows no end.
"My name is Sun!" she jumped and said
And her friend smiled in glee:
"You've found your name, my happy friend
Let's find a name for me."
And so they searched throughout the day
For the color that matched hers
Not the lake, nor the deep blue sky
Then it suddenly occured.
"We should stop searching now
For night is coming soon."
The blue bear went along with this
Until she saw the moon.
"Moon is my name," she calmly said
And Sun knew this to be true
For the clouds that hid the glowing sphere
Were her partner's blue.
And so the two lay down to sleep
A great friendship had begun
For these two bears were like two spheres
Those spheres, the moon and sun.

Author notes

Actually, this is not strictly a prewrite, as I digged it out of some old storage bins and probably wrote it when I was younger. But, I revised it a bit before entering, and I hope you like it.

    WHAT A WONDERFUL STORY!!!

This is so beautiful! To me it could be an old native american story which was told around the campfire.'s Just lovely!

A sweet story about friendship! I would like to see this made into an illustrated book for children as I was picturing each scene as the story unfolded.

Such a delightful tale about the bears with no name. This poem is cleverly done, like a children's story. Nicely done and thought out.
