Her skin is a map
Blue veins winding through
She is almost translucent
Through to her heart I can see
In the shadows she plays
Where you can see her clearly
The patterned sun streaming through windows
Seems to make her fade
I make her snowflakes,
Cut from paper
We hold them up,
Light hits her eyes
"Shield me, protect me"
She whispers to my ears
A thing on each side of my head
They hear her
I stand in front,
Deflect the glow
Ethereal in the sunshine
She could disappear if I dare take a breath
Or close my eyes
So I keep them open
"Shield my, protect me"
I stand in front
I wait for the light to take her away
She is translucent
I can see behind her
The life that I will lead
The life that she has known
She is barely even there
So alive, but so close to death
She fades as I step out of line

I read on your author's page that you are fourteen--this is very good, and you have really wonderful potential. I am so happy to see this here in the contest, really. I got a little cold chill reading this. Check the last stanza--should it be "shield me, protect me" instead of "shield my" on the first line of the stanza?
Thank you for sharing your talent with me in this contest.
