Oh my daddy daddy - how I love you so
don't leave me now, for I am not ready
I feel you losing your grip from this life
and I too am losing my grip like cold fingers
hanging from a ledge for dear life.
I see the tiredness in your vacant eyes
as the light slowly dims-the reflection is gone
replaced by pools of sorrow in my own glassy eyes
I listen as you struggle with each fading breath
watching hopelessly as you take laboured breaths
your chest rise and fall and rise and fall
and my own trembling heart rise and fall with it
not knowing if this will be your last breath
Daddy, If only I could make things right
If only time would stand still and let us relive
the moment of my childhood and,
the beginning of fatherhood for you.
If only you had a chance to see the setting sun
and feel the coolness of a summer morning.
as you lift me up to the sky twirling me around
while I look down lovingly into your warm eyes
and know that you are my daddy forever and ever.
daddy, I know you are tired and sleepy.
I know you are exhausted and you want to rest
rest daddy, rest, close your sleepy eyes
and rest your tired body.
let the angels take you to heaven,
let them cradle you in their arms,
you don't have to fight anymore
just let go and let God.
I love forever daddy.
don't leave me now, for I am not ready
I feel you losing your grip from this life

Author notes
Thank you to all for your kind comments and words of comfort. My dad is 92yrs old and is suffering from CHF, Kidney failure, chronic bronchitis, and a host of other problems. At this stage in his life, we see no reason to prolong his suffering by putting him on dialysis. His heart is just too weak and he won't be able to tolerate it at his age.
Please tell me what you think

Very good, sad but good. Finding words is not easy, but you have found words which are very comforting to the harsh reality of life.

It's the hardest thing that my family and I have ever been through. I pray constantly for God to ease his suffering and accept him into his kingdom. Thank you. Avril

This is so sad, I hope you are doing alright
Losing someone is such a deep heart wrenching pain, but sometimes holding onto them when they want to go hurts more
Well done
