In us all there is a demon
That threatens to overcome
It controls and it consumes us
Picks us off, one by one
Just sit and think for a moment
What's your demon that's inside
For everyone it's different
And I won't tell you mine
But everyday I wake up
Then my demon comes to call
And to it evil clutches
I eventually befall
I try so hard to fight it
I summon all the strength within
but eventually I succumb
And I know the demon wins
Some people's are right out there
For all the world to see
But my inner demon
Is known by only me
But I know I am no different
From all the others round about
I look and them and wonder
What's yours? drugs?, or lust?, or doubt?
I know that as you're reading
Your demon springs to mind
Don't say that you don't have one
Because I know for sure you've lied
So how do we overcome
the demon that's within
If you ever find the answer
Then be sure to clue me in!

What a great idea for a poem and so true. "We all have our demons" is a very common expression. "Nobody's perfect" is another one that means the same thing. You got me thinking about what mine are. "Doubt" would probably top the list. Great write! Thanks.

See what I mean... you can never tell what peoples 'demons' are, I'd have never picked you for a doubt man.
