When a Child Calls Your Name

Looking up into the gray skies,
smiling through my tears,
there isn't a precious memory
to hold throughout those restless years.
Holding your hand,
I sink my feet into the sand,
yes, there were some happy times, but
you don't come running when a child calls your name.
Shivering as I wrap a towel around me,
smiling at a baby's laughter,
sometimes I wish upon a shooting star
that you will be here for me now and on after.
I close the door and look on back,
see happy families and kids playin' games,
sometimes I often wonder what it'd be like
if you'd ever run to a child calling your name.
'Cause mama I've lay in sleepless nights
and wonder where you were,
others I'd lie restless in a corner
where you've left me hurt.
Deep inside I wanna yell,
and scream so unselfishly,
'cause all I've ever wanted was
for you to love me.

Please tell me what you think

Oh..this is so very sad and heart wrenching. I am sorry if this is personal for you. As children, all we ever yearn for is the love of our parents. You have expressed some very powerful and painful emotions in this poem. Keep writing as it can be so healing. I wish you love and peace. Blessings, Patty
