river rats paddling their hearts out
vodka and Gator aid causes no doubt
current may be strong but our thirst is stronger
the trip may be long but being drunk makes it longer
"don't rock the boat, don't rock the boat Louie".
laughing and screaming like a banshee
what is the celebration? every thing
what is the harm? nothing
here come the rapids, fast to fast
we're going to crash
flipped in the water
buzzes have been slaughtered
drunk canoing is over...
for now we're just rovers
Author notes

Oh man, I love floating the river! My husband and I go every Memorial day...we've only flipped once, but it was a bad one. We had our two dogs and a cooler of beer...when we flipped, the current was so strong and the water so deep that our canoe was swept downstream. My husband set out after it while I swam for shore with a dog under each arm and a bottle of malibu clenched beneath my chin!
It all turned out ok, but I thought I might drown for a minute there!
Thanks for the memories

the first thing saved after we flipped was the cooler filled with our vodka, my boyfriend grabbed the canoe, and louie the dog swam to a beach. it was a sobering moment.

Ha! That's so funny!
I totally agree with Cynewulf, it does have a lurching quality, and that's cool, considering it's a poem!
I like the light humor and rhyming scheme used, but I would've capitalized the title. That's all I've got to say!
Thanks for sharing!

i was a hell of a trip.

I like this, it has a sort of 'lurching' mimetic quality to it, as if it mimics the rolling of a boat or canoe.
