Coda

Let the last note be most sweet
the song ends with a glow like
sunset, beauty glides into night

light goes to another side
a world still dark finds rising hope
and love is the fire of the star.

Let the ending sound dwell on air
as if it might never leave.
For in lives touched, even for moments shared,
comes the beauty of rising night.

New birth in ashes of a day
consumed before we would have it done
but savored, as a most precious pearl

adorning the ebony skin of the skies
and reflecting the warmth, that once had been.

  • You always make it hard for me.

I think your images are always well done but the beginning was a bit weaker for me - especially when in contrast to your ending which was incredibly strong.

Otherwise, I may even consider placing some stanzas together.

    Still, you know you rock.

...a world still dark finds rising hope..."

    Although about the lingering ending,
to me the words spell out the hope
    now campaigning on the horizon.

    Superb.

  • Coda is such a perfect title! I love the incorporation of musical terms in poetry anyway, and this one is particularly apt. To me the coda is more than just an ending. There is not abruptness. It is that last wonderful movement that has been signaled ahead, and has been ANTICIPATED in a piece of music. And the comparison here, to the night, has such wonderful implications. Definitely "most sweet." I also like the suggestion here that there is promise in the closing of the sound, of the day. Hope rising elsewhere. A profound and comforting thought.

"new birth in ashes of a day consumed before we would have it done, but savored"--that is perfect articulation, PK. It speaks of an acceptance, and not a numb acceptance, but rather, one that is filled with all the emotion due, and yet with a changed, and wiser perspective-- a gratitude for having been blessed to experience "the warmth."

This is definitely a QW poem, as I see it. Lovely, and touching.
