Covetousness

Envy, at variance with other deadly sins
Lurking where only God can see.

I covet my neighbor's little T-bird convertible.
Parked in front of El Pollo Loco,
The color of beaten egg yolks
after they turn lemon yellow.

I looked
my covetousness
known only to God.

Lust, easily seen by others
as is gluttony.
Sloth runs rampant

Every deadly sin
except covetousness
readily seen.

Envy hides in the heart
where only God's eyes can peer.

I envy.

I covet.

I want
that little yellow t-bird
convertible...

My neighbor unaware.

In this way, envy is unique.
Only punishable by God

because

it is only seen by God.

Author notes

#3 envy (also known as covetousness

laws cannot be made against envy because only God can see into the heart. Only he can enforce his 10th "word"

Your poem expresses the sin of envy very well. It points out the very private nature of this sin, only able to be seen by God.

Thank you for your entry, and best of luck.

hmm...while I like the premise of your piece...the flow is a bit rocky....
I notice you use a lot of filler words, like : the, is, and...many times those can be omitted for a more cohesive write.
a wonderful take on the prompt.
best of luck in the contest!!!
