all i see is the sun falling behind the water,
the sky fading to black
like the closing of a curtain,
masking the ending
with a cover of darkness.
on the nights we spent together,
the stars fell like diamonds
into my eyes, my heart;
the air was warm, humid,
holding us, suffocating us in its grasp --
turning your curls into the frizzy mess
that i just loved to run my hands through
oh, dear, do you remember
lying on top of your car,
pretending that tomorrow would never come?
we carved our initials into the side of a tree
after we crashed down into the grass,
jars of fireflies lighting up our hearts,
illuminating the 4EVER
beneath our initials --
oh, i never believed in you more than i did
that night,
tangled up in love.
and honey,
you'll never know,
but i still have the dandelion bracelet you made me
on the night that you said it would never end.
the petals are black, crisp
memories of what once was,
but the bracelet is still intact,
hanging limply from my wrist.
just waiting for you to come back
[riding in on the next wave of summer love]
and bring it back to life.

i really like this.
it reminds me of the poem i entered in this contest.

&& its probably one of my most memorable dates ever.
