Do you seek
your own heart’s mirror?
Breath’s intake,
admiration’s sigh
spent on
garish gilt and flame,
linen leaves
unloosed,
carefully clutched
history on parade -
or
secluded shadow
unremarked,
youth shed betimes
to nurture growing future,
hands empty and open
to receive
new gifts.

How I would love to say I am the latter.
These are tenderly written words of wisdom. Wonderful insipration spiraled from the image prompt.
An impressive piece of work here and I LIKE IT.
Thank you for such a remarkable entry. Well done. ~Pamela

The image calls to my mind bygone youth as well.
You paint your vision well here with pliable
thoughts expressed in interesting word usage. Blue

This was beautiful. I also loved how you added a new word to my vocabulary. My friends say that is a hard task. Thank you and great write. S.I.

Beautiful poem!
I love it. You have written a sparsely elegant and moving piece here. Favorite part,
hands empty and open
to receive
new gifts.
Speaks to me of a spiritual seeking, being open to what God wants and not so wrapped up in the "garish gilt and flame" (great line) of worldly possessions. At least that's my take.
Best of luck in the contest.

So beautiful! I loved this poem on so many levels. My favorite phrase was "secluded shadow
unremarked," especially contrasted with the "garish gilt and flame,
linen leaves
unloosed" This is truly outstanding! Best of luck in the contest.
