to anyone who cared,
"God loves me not, for he never
sends answers to my prayers".
The priest, who listened from the church
did not even blink.
Said he, "God knows just what you want,
but He wants you to think".
The devil, who heard me deep in Hell,
sniffed and said with scorn,
"God cares not whether you or yours
see another dawn".
The beggar, who listened from the street,
merely smiled and said,
"If God did not care or lend his ear,
I would sure be dead".
I saw the beggar's tattered dress,
and wondered how he coped,
but saw, 'to him, so close to death,
the name of God is "Hope"'.
I saw the devil's fiendsich face,
delighting in my strife,
and thought, 'this Beast knows the name of God
to be "Lord of Life"'.
I saw the priest's sincere visage,
and needed no further proof
for he knew as well as I, by now,
that the name of God is 'Truth'.
Author notes
I wrote this only a few minutes before reading the contest brief, and was amazed to find a contest that suited it so quickly!
I'm not religious, and I only go to Church at Christmas, but I love different beliefs and cultures and everything spiritual, so this was really interesting to write. I wanted to show that even if you don't believe in God, you always search for the Truth.
