Stories Untold
Is the plight
of the old.
So much to say,
to no one each day.
Destined to sit,
and stare at a wall.
Someone to listen,
we ask, is all.
What did we do,
to deserve this, our end?
Just a moment of time,
for our smile, or grin.
Please talk to us,
help delay, our end.

Please take a moment, to talk to the old ones you love. Both of you will be happy you did.
This is my most important poem due to my lifelong passion for talking to old people and seeing how much they are forgotten, ignored and lives shortened from boredom and neglect.

I dearly miss the stories my grand father use to tell me and the shine in his face and the light in his eyes as he'd come to life in the euphoric recall of the telling of his deeds. Great poem

I like this a lot! Recently my father had a heart attack, then ended up having a 6 way bi-pass. I'm 1200 miles away and usually stay connected through a phone call every other week.
When he had the heart attack I flew home to help him through the recovery. He lives in a communicty of 'elderly.' I noticed how the joy came as I sat with him and his friends just talking and sharing.
This is sad, at the same time...because it brings forth how 'we' do take advantage of not talking or sharing with our elderly, but instead discard them to the wayside due to a need for speed.
Today's genereation doesn't want to stop t smell the roses...they want to stop cut the flowers and take them with them so they can smell them along the way.
You did a terrific job with the poem, I assure you it is thoroughly enjoyed.
Thanks for entering the 'Passions' contest, it was my pleasure to read your work. The best of luck to you.

Thank you for your wonderful comment. As you can tell, talking to old people, has always been a passion of mine. Now that I "are" one of them, it is even more so. I wish your father well and hope for a speedy recovery. Six way, I didn't know we had that many, anyway give him a hug. Hugs go a long way.
Thanks Again

I actually really enjoyed this poem. It's not what I was looking for in this contest, but it's a great poem anyway. I'm living with my grandparents right now and they talk with me a lot. Old people are always wiser and have a lot to say!

i love short and sweet poems especially when they have a profound meeting, my sister is in a nursing home and although she is only 20 the other residents there are older. and they only want someone to talk to so they dont feel forgotten or like they are waiting to die. great job thank you
