The Sun Also Rises With Jonathan Livingston

Littered with inked ideas
wanting only a slight hold
upon your heavy hands

Heard back up singers
The Counting Crows
banging so loudly
singing an old song
with a new meaning

Going back to Sleepwalking
The night you asked
if I was thirsty
instead of dancing

Dancing with another
while you sat watching closely
This fucked up relationship over
stand still

Finally slow dancing
while you over and over say
again and again
"This means nothing"

-"But Baby, You're glowing so gold
tonight I'd fall in love"

But this is only a fantasy
in an innocent flag of surrender

-"Alright baby, I get you.
Leave you alone. Fuck my heart attack.
It's coming back from an overdose
of medication, but baby, don't worry!
I asked a paramedic how to do this.
Crush to a fine dust
to resist throwing up."

Understatement rings
"I'm so sorry for hurting your feelings"
"I'm so sorry for murdering your nine children
while they were sleeping"
"I'm so sorry for breaking your skull against a brick wall while you screamed 'stop, stop it' until your voice box ruptured"

"I'm so fucking sorry for hurting your fucking feelings"

I'm so sorry for having them
although, my sun goes down
how it shined so bright
on it's explosion
how you bleed so right
between my fists
so tiny and dear
who would have thought
you cold bloodied killer

Author notes

Premise Brief:

I realize the content is childish and petty, but the feeling was and is so intense I don't breath in the delivery. It's broke and the word "fuck" replaces my every thought at this point. The last line would only be understood by the person this is about- but in order to defend myself- it's from a song he sang to me the night this all occurred. He said 'I've got a cold bloodied killer on my hands, what should I do?' I thought it added bite to it. I also thought this would come across stronger if I explained where it came from.

All of this is dull. I know this. But I really loved the prompt. I hope you can see the sarcasm and irony. The jokes. Thank you.

dude, sarcasm is something I look for in almost every poem/story/song. I think a lot of times it just adds to the meaning. Then again, I'm a very sarcastic person, so that could be it.

    Interesting.

Man. I'm so glad. I wish we were talking! That night was so dumb. The night this poem is about. I'm really glad you saw the joke though.
