How to Fall.

The lights shine on through
a veiled window, the colors burst into
my room dark and alone in here.
It's so quiet, with the door shut
no one can get in here.
Their thoughts, their voices
all leave me here.

The lights shine on through,
the colors burst past the veil.

The window ledge, made of metal,
that changes into ice at my very touch.
Grab on hold, start to shiver,
but push on to get to the edge.
Beyond the dark, following what
was once in my dreams, the light
I saw when I was going to break.

The lights shine on through,
the colors burst past the veil.

The edge, shaking from the anticipation
of falling on down, from falling away.
Falling, going away from the dark room
where their voices all leave me. Looking down
the ground is a strange blue, the lights
are still shining through.

The lights shine on through
the colors burst past
and I uncover the veil.

Author notes

If you're someone who likes to think up their own symbolism and ideas for poetry, don't bother reading this, I just thought I'd explain some of the symbols. If not, read on.
