Bells ring, cheering on
the end of classes,
the beginning of freedom,
and out she
skips,
trailing wind behind her
like a veil,
frolicking in the puddles left over
from last night's thunderstorms.
And then she has nothing left
but to laze about in the sun
amongst the flowers she has strewn
in the too-long grass,
growing hotter and hotter despite the litter
of empty styrofoam sno-cone cups around her
while a chorus of insects orchestrates
the dance of cotton-ball clouds.
Author notes
I have personified the month of May (Texas-style, in case you don't recognize it).

Lovely imagery such as "trailing wind...like a veil" and "dance of cotton ball clouds" and smoothly flowing verse. I enjoyed this very much. Thank you for your entry.

Very nice personification of May. I particularly enjoyed "out she skips, trailing wind" and "frolicking in the puddles." Lovely "laze about...amongst the flowers she has strewn in the too-long grass." Very nice conclusion, "chorus of insects orchestrates the dance of cottonball clouds." Lovely imagery throughout.

This was deeply beautiful. I really enjoyed reading this piece as it was different from the others and full of such vivid imagery and I really liked how you portrayed May in "Texas style". Amazing job!
Best of luck & thanks for entering
