There she went, right past him. She never noticed him, but he always saw her. To him she was everything. They never talked to each other, even though they lived right by each other. She was the popular princess and he couldn't have been farther from the prince. He liked rock and she liked pop. He dressed in black ans she wore labels. While their lifestyles were the same, their personalities were polar opposites. Their fathers owned their own companies. Their mothers were both stay at home moms. She had a little brother and he was an only child. Then one day she saw him.

Everything seemed to change rather quickly from then on.

It was the last day of their junior year, a Friday. They had a half day. He saw her first, but ignored her. he started to cleaning his locker out. He turned around to throw something away, when their eyes met. It seemed like minutes went by, really it was only a second. Then she started to walk towards the front doors again. He turned back to his locker and finished cleaning it out. He walked home and went up to his bedroom. His mom came and knocked on his door and behind her was the girl of his dreams. His mom left and they were alone. He went to his stero and turned on his radio. When he turned around she was saying, "My name is Kayla." He said, "Yeah I know your name, but that doesn't explain why you are here at my house in my room." He just looked at her. She couldn't believe that this guy had just talked to her like that. "Oh by the way, tell your friends that if the joke would have worked, it would have been funny. But since it didn't then the joke is on you and them. Now if you are done trying to make a joke of me, then you can leave the same way you came in." Kayla just stared at him with her mouth open a little bit. The she said, "What's your name?" "Jared." She turned around and started to walk out the door. As she started to say something he turned the volume up on his radio and she left. She went to the street and told everyone what he had said then she turned around and saw him glaring at them. That was the second time their eyes met in the same day.

He turned around and went to his bed. He grabbed his notebook and went to his car. As he backed out of his driveway he saw them all still sitting at the curb. He pulled up next to them and said, "Ya'll really shouldn't sit out in front of the house if ya'll want the joke to work. And Kayla, your dad is staring at you. I have that affect on parents. Well see you hopefully never again. And if any of you walk back on my property, I'll call the cops fpr trespassing. Enjoy your night." As he drove off he played the Story of the Year cd.

When he got home that night he found Kayla sitting under the trees in his backyard. He went and sat down beside her and asked, "What are you doing sitting under the trees?" "I'm thinking about how you talked to me. No one has ever talked to me like that. People just say what I want to hear and keep their opinions to themselves." He just looked at her and said, "Ok, but why are you sitting under the trees in my backyard? Aren't you supposed to be at a partyor something?" "My dad grounded me, but I don't think he knows what the word entails. He said i'm grounded, but he didn't say that I couldn't go anywhere, talk to anyone, or anything?" "What got you grounded, Kayla?" "I don't really know. I think it was you." "Well now that we have that figured out, why are you sitting in my backyard?" "You don't like me much do you?" He looked at her, really looked at her and said, "I've always like you Kayla. You just won't give anybody a chance if they don't fit in with your friends. Notice that before today we have never looked at each other in the eye or talked at all. This is the second time in one day that we have talked." She looked up at the sky and was about to say something when her dad yelled her name. "If I came over in the middle of the night, do you think I could sleep in you room?" Her dad yelled her name again and Jared said, "Yeah, sure."

Jared was about to lay down when he saw Kayla sneak out of her house and go into his backyard. Jared wnet downstairs to the back door and opened it. He motioned her inside and she followed him upstairs. When they got to his room, Kayla went to sit on the edge of his bed. Jared sat next to her and asked, "Kayla, is everything alright?" She rested her head on his shoulder and leaned into him. "Thanks", she whispered then she drifted off to sleep in Jared's arms. Jared laid her down on his bed and then he went to sit under his window.

When he woke up Kayla was in his arms and they were laying on the floor. Kayla slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Jared. He looked at his clock and it read six 'o clock. Kayla followed his gaze and then she got up and said, "I have to go before my parents wake up." Jared nodded his head and helped her out of his house. At the backdoor Kayla looked up at him and said, "Thanks Jared. I really appreciate it." HE just looked at her and then said, "Anytime." Kayla turned and walked away. Jared went to hid room and watched Kayla enter her house, when saw her bedroom light come on he turned around to his bed and saw that her phone was on his bed. He went to his window and saw Kayla. She looked paniced and was digging in her pockets. He waited until she was done then waved his hands a couple of times to get her attention. She finally looked up at him and saw her phone in his hand. Kayla swung around as her door started to open and saw her dad coming through her door. Jared ducked out of the way so her father wouldn't see him.
