One Thousand and One

some may recall
a dark eyed doll
curled in a corner

lost to the world
of angry voices
that crumbled to silence

she learned not to cry
and how to be invisible

  lured to faraway places
  of silk and saffron
  where gypsy caravans
  cross the broad expanse
  of sparkling sand

where Scheherazade lived
by wits and charm

I love the Arabian Nights. Interestingly enough 1001 breaks down to the number of magic... You talk about invisibility in this poem which is a power associated with initiation. Interesting.. I like the penultimate stanza best... a few of my favorite things.

Wonderful write. I liked the part of being invisible. It made me think of how people may try to hide themselves from others in life. Like, even on days when they feel a lot of sadness, they will try not to show their emotions of how sad they may be. Thanks for sharing and best of luck in the contest.
