Optic Treason

Be suspicious of the virtues of light.
They are fewer than you may observe.
While there is much splendor in the light,
The force which creates it is violence.

A maelstrom of swirling molten gases
Is made tolerable through great distance.
Hellfire burns far away from us
To bring us light in the darkness.

Not only this I say to you,
That beautiful things often come from violence;
Not all that is wonderful to behold
Reflects the same splendor in its true design.

A sword polished to a mirror finish
May still be used to take innocent lives.
A coin crafted from the purest silver
May guide the noblest men to wickedness.

Fail not to question anything, my friends,
Especially those things fairest to view.
Those things on which you fixate your gaze
Could be the very things which one day kill you.

Author notes

This one is much more eloquently worded than when i first put the idea into writing.
