Rhyme for Sanity

These rhymes are flowing out of me,
poetic plea for sanity.
Rich leaders have too much to gain,
by leaving all the poor in pain.
The innocents locked up for weed
aren't criminals, and must be freed.
They're victims of an unjust war,
when you deem nature breaks the law.
This plant that's been decreed a crime
has not, in all recorded time
caused anyone on earth to die
(but might have caused a few to fly).
While alcohol kills many more,
and yet is pushed upon the poor
With advertising on TV,
to deal this drug across the screen.
It lays behind most battered wives,
the scourge of oh so many lives,
yet not just legal, also taxed
I can't accept these awful facts.
That's why I spill this poetry
A desperate plea for sanity

Author notes

I can only try and illuminate the world the way I see it with my words. If people like it or agree with me (or both!) then all the better.

this is great i agree with everything in this. pot is so socially accepted yet its illegal. i dont usually like rhyming poems but this flows so nicely. you speak many truths in this. best thing ive read all day.

I like the way you have book-ended this work with the same type of statement.

The paired lines read well. The way I see it, the second line in each works like a response to the first. This argument, though often posed, is well presented here.

The humour "(but might have caused a few to fly)." is timely as it gives a bit of a break before moving on.

(Alcohol abetted destruction is something I know all about, but I'm not so sure adding another element is the best idea... just an opinion)

    Well rhymed and nicely flowing.

I do not agree with all of your argument, especially the premise that no harm comes from pot. There are good points and bad points to the use of this drug that I have seen first hand.

I have also seen the damage done by alcohol. I believe that any chemical ingested in too much quantity is not good for you.

Overall, it is a well done work.

Thanks a lot for your comment.
I never claimed that no harm comes from pot, merely that no deaths can be directly attributed to it, something that the two legal recreational drugs, alcohol and tobacco, can't even come close to claiming. I fully understand, and have first hand experience of, the good and bad sides of the drug.

I respect your opinion, as I said, all I can do is try and show the world through my eyes...

    Excellent

Aye, I do. A very fine write, indeed. Imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. Please keep on writing. I liked it just the way it is.
