Bilbo's Farewell

Looking over shoulders with mithril mist bedecked,
With sadness see I precious friends, eternally well met.
With wizened weary feet, as burdened years prevail,
Now I of Baggins long descent across the seas must sail.

Hold I in my troubled heart a thousand honest hands,
Of those who, when against the odds, by my side did stand.
Oh tears, forget not one of them, as down my cheeks you fall,
Leaving trails on which to walk, when memories past do call.

    Good win!

Don't think the large font was necessary, but it's a great poem. Love the subject, the form - great take on the prompt! Wonderfully done!

Very well-crafted, with a lovely old-fashioned rhyme scheme; fits perfectly with the prompt. Some phrases are particularly lovely: "wizened weary feet, as burdened years prevail" and "oh tears, forget not one of them/ as down my cheeks you fall" --great flow and very touching. A very good read.

    Excellent

Having read the Trilogy at least 20 times, in my life, I find this to be a very fine write indeed and true to the flavor of Tolkien's work. Thanks for sharing this one with us.

Superb. The Lord of the Rings. One of my all time favorite books. You have caught the essence of the book just so with this quite brilliant poem. The poem is deep and sad and hold so many truths within it. Superb work here. Good luck. Although, I feel, that this will win gold.

    Well done

Bravo! This seems to fit the prompt just fine and flows well. All the elements of a good poem. I haven't read Lord of the Rings are seen the movies, but my hubby is a great fan of Tolkien, this seems to fit the tale quite well. So glad you are back on track.
