Unelectable?

News ticker… New presidential candidate enters the race…

He’s considered weak on foreign policy.
Because he’ll talk to anybody,
thinks we should show kindness even to enemies,
and exercise power compassionately.
No policy on taxes, or immigration. Not married, no kids…
and you should see the kind of people he hangs around with!
His rhetoric is lovely, but his past is checkered--
if you can believe it, he’s got an arrest record!
Thinks he can cure the sick and feed the hungry for free
where will our health and food industries be?
He’s no fan of capitalism, sees no virtue in wealth,
believes the rich should give more so the poor can be helped,
he’s against the death penalty, but he’s also pro-life,
favors peaceful accord above vengeance and strife.
Anti-guns, but elevates faith over big government.
Confusing -- doesn’t quite fit Democrat or Republican.
How could a voter ever get behind a candidate like him?

Jesus Christ.

He's already won! He wins each second of each day, and has long since retired from the race. Although, there are those of us that continue to make His Holy Spirit a write in candidate. He has had my vote since my innocence became a mature entity in the world. Ever Lasting to Ever Lasting is His primary focus, and Love is what has always (from the beginning), and will always, (to the end) fund the CHRIST JESUS CAMPAIGN!

    Brilliant work!

    Ingeniuous Title!

    Much Love Always ♥

    If tempted by USA politics,
    Jesus would undoubtedly
run as a Democrat, the party
that looks out for all citizens,
    not just those well-funded,
    and that believes in
    the power of "everyman."
    And in my perfect world,
he'd take Hillary on as VP.

    Great premise, Mallig.

Thank you so much for your comment! If he had to pick, I think Jesus would tend towards Democrat too.

    Incredible good!
You have this talent of making people think deep about things that are so obvious, and yet we don't see till they are an inch away from our eyes.
This is an excellent write, one I'd love to share with few friends of mine

Engaging, compassionate, non-judgmental ... believes in helping the poor and hungry , sharing the wealth, gun control, and valuing life (in all forms)?? What a radical! Who could possibly trust HIM as a leader. LOL Unfortunately, I think HIS chances for election would be slim to none. But as for me ... he has my vote already. I believe in his 'vision'.

Excellent write Malli! Got us thinking again. Thanks for sharing this one.

Catchy title, especially at this season of the U.S. political process. Great first line.
Love the analogies you have set up regarding political and background issues in today's terminology.

Brings up a counterpoint you lightly touched with "where will our health and food industries be?" I believe He would be strongly lobbied against and possibly misrepresented by many with fame, fortune and power under the status quo. I think He would be viewed, as He was by the majority of the religious/political Sanhedrin, as a very dangerous individual, with the potential capacity to sink the system they had clawed to the top of.

Thanks, I appreciate your perspective and thoughtful comment. And I think you are right about that opposition!
  • HAHAAHAAA!

I love it. Perfect lead to the end. Never really thought of it that way. Creative. Bravo.

  • I think that many modern day Americans have fashioned Jesus Christ in particular way, and do not really know the historical man. This poem reminds me of one of my father's (and now my) favorite Christmas songs. It is "Rebel Jesus" by Jackson Browne. Jesus was not a big supporter of capitalism, cronyism and all the other "isms" that seem to pervade Washington today.

Since this is not entered in a contest I would like to take issue with one line, "he’s against the death penalty, but he’s also pro-life." I don't see a contradiction here. I believe in a consistent life ethic, what Father John Dear calls "The Seamless Garment", which calls for a respect for life from cradle to grave. State sanctioned killing (even for a "noble" purpose) runs counter to this ethic so that someone who is truly "pro-life" WOULD be opposed to the death penalty.

This poem offers a great deal to ponder and I hope that many people take the time to read and comment on it.

    Peace, Liz

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts, Liz. I agree with you that being against the death penalty and being pro-life are totally consistent. When writing that "but" in the line I was thinking of how for some reason the two issues seem to land on opposite sides of the political fence. I still can't figure that one out!

Powerful political thoughts reap through this wonderful poem
I can not judge as am still learning the politics and the leaders of your Country.
No different here and I am in total despair as are many English people, who see our Country go to rack and ruin.

His chances would be great. He already has a whole heap of followers! Who would the parties be? I'd like to see a government that can't be bought out by lobbists from big businesses or a mass of "voters" who's can't be hypnotized by flashes of ads. But what about the brainwashing we'd get? Oh well, then... Forget it. I mean, who wants to be righteous? I sorta like looking in the mirror and forgeting what I look like when I walk away. Don't you know that it's cool to have the memory of a goldfish? Now... Where's my Prada? I gotta pop my collar...
