she wanted eclipsed eyes

like a teenage gypsy,
she moved across states
faster than blinks:

batted lashes
became monotonous

as eyeliner & black shadows
masked visions of aspirations.

tracing veins;

a search for love
in red rivers of reasons
why she still couldn’t see

reflections in time

Author notes

-As for this picture: go down to the bottom of this note section to the link [I apologize - it is a very long link] and after you have done that, go down to the last paragraph just above the picture with all of those girl-models. Once you are there, look for the “here” link - click it, and it will lead you to Christian’s collection for the final round. Do not click out of this page, you will be coming back to it for every other poem I write.

[2/13 - the hat made me think of how someone hides themselves from the sun, for their own protection. so I thought of how, at the time I liked tony, he was afraid to get into a relationship because he wasn’t sure if he was going to stay in florida long enough to fall in love, and he didn’t want to break anyone’s heart if he had to leave. so it made me think of how someone wears the hat to hide themselves from love. I didn’t bring up the hat in the poem, because I felt it would have been too in-the-box when it came to the imagery; so I just focused with the eyes. The eye is symbolic to time. So before she can see the reflection good enough [of love], she’s already had to blink; she’s already had to move somewhere else. the eyeliner and black eye-shadow concept reminded me of how girls do “hide“ their eyes (but ironically they end up looking like a raccoon - lol!) - and so she hides herself from everyone. Yes, she wants to fall in love- but only if she is to stay in a permanent location.]]

I chose those set of pictures, because I felt there was a story - the dresses just became more complex each time; sometimes in strange, grotesque ways. I wanted to bring those elements to life in a poetic story.

I don't like the first 2 lines. I don't exactly know why but I think it's because they sound less poetic and more ...blunt?

And in the second to last line, the "why" makes me confused. Consider changing it to 'while'?

Other than that, I loved this. The explanation was amazing too.

Love it love it LOVE IT!!!

(pst, any ideas where I could find some more fashion sets? )

Oh, and my favorite line would have to be the first one.

Cassie, I spent 5 hours looking for a decent set. It's a pain in the ass if you are like me [who sucks at finding stuff!] - so good luck!

      Google helped[ish].

      Thanks for the comment

PS. try to go for one of the finalists of project runaway, because they went farther in the contest; therefore, better chances you have of finding inspiring pictures.

Okay, so, I have no clue what Project Runway is, so I'm totally lost. I shop at Wal-Mart.

Yes, I'm still in the contest, but that doesn't stop me from being confused about the prompt. xD

lol what you do is, choose a fashion designer from project runway. i suggest you choose someone who made the finals.

so you will choose 8 outfits that designer made during the contest. with those 8 outfits; each will inspire one poem. So all together you will have 8 poems. [under 50 words!]

ohhhhhh, that is so much clearer. No offence to Chase or anything, but he has a tendency to OVER explain things.

And thank goodness for short poetry. I haven't been able to write lengthy poetry lately.

I've already asked him a couple, but you answered them for me.

I was thinking we actually had to dress up like the models and take pictures of ourselves. xD
