I am curled up on my bed
Mum stands above me
Yells, screams
GET UP GET UP GET UP
"I will be late for work, you will make me late"
I cry, weep
She has forgotten the date
The tantrum is amazing
I shriek and howl at her
My mouth is open so wide
She looks like she could hit me
For ruining her day
And then I yell at you dad,
Because you left me
And my mother doesn't remember
I stay at home,

Mum calls hours later,
She remembered what day it is

She's at work,
I am alone
Crying crying crying
The tears wind their way down my face
Into my outstretched palms
I raise them high to show you
That even though you're dead
I still feel
When I close my eyes
I remember what it was like
My mother sobs
Lying next to me
Not allowed to cry, Tess
Not allowed to cry
"Your pain is nothing compared to hers,
And nothing will ever compete"
But it hurts so much
Like I have been stabbed in my heart
My head is full of tears
My throat has been pulled out
I can't say a thing

I will remember better times
I bought you a card dad, last year
It had the poem from the service at
Your funeral
Where I was not welcome,
I was only your step-daughter
And the man who is actually my father
Can't seem to love me like you did
