Crying with You

I let your tears soak
into the hemlines
that I ripped holes in
so I could hide the secrets
without a hint.

They disappeared.
Just like that.

Threatening voices -
they're our camoflague.
The faster they talk,
the faster we run.
The louder they get,
the more we dare to cry.

And I promise you
that it'll be okay.
Tomorrow's another day.

You want me to tell you
candyfloss words
like, "it'll be over soon"
and "things will get better"

but you hate candyfloss
and its baby colours.
Processed.
Sugary.
False.

You're not a baby anymore.
And I'm not who I should be.

Let's take this
as proof of indecency
and a sign of neglect
that I'll be blind to -

                now I'll be your darkness
and you can cut me into pieces,
                leave me out to dry,
                feed me to the maggots.

I deserve nothing less.
I deserve nothing more.

Author notes

1.
'Hate me today
Hate me tomorrow
Hate me for all the things I didn’t do for you'
Blue October

.[I'd stare at the sun for you, allow myself to go blind, because your face is etched in my mind anyway]

Told ya I'd enter! Although it's probably not what neither of us were expecting (or like)

Hurting the ones you love before they can hurt you is a vicious cycle where no one wins. Its a defense thing that is quite common. Especially in the young. You can only find true love by being willing to take the chance of being hurt. Give love and respect and if its not returned, just walk away. Thats their loss! Such a thought provoking and emotional poem!

Hmm, this is actually a poem about family, but thank you for opening my eyes to another side of this poem I haven't seen, it actually makes me look at it in a new lights, it's really refreshing.

    Wow. Thats odd.
Today I nearly bought what you lovely British folk call Candy Floss (I'm totally gonna call it that from now on! It sounds like it should be sold in bundles used to knit decorative sweaters!).
Honestly, kiddo. The only thing sweeter thann the melting delicious taste of Candy Floss is the way you write.
Every word stitching a new thought flawlessly.

"You want me to tell you
    candyfloss words
    like, "it'll be over soon"
and "things will get better" "
    So loving that. Beautifully put.

I have to comment... it's the nice thing to do when holding a contest

    'I let your tears soak
    into the hemlines
    that I ripped holes in
so I could hide the secrets
    without a hint.'
That opening is amazing^^ it was my favourite part and then I read more, and now I'm going to practically quote your whole piece

    'The faster they talk,
    the faster we run.
    The louder they get,
the more we dare to cry.'

    anddd...

'You want me to tell you
    candyfloss words
    like, "it'll be over soon"
    and "things will get better"

    but you hate candyfloss
    and its baby colours.'
