Gentle mouth moving in songs of life
carries her joy and strain upon balmy seas
dusk veiled deltas of floods and flows
where Nile runs like blood from beating heart
and skin sends drumbeats of nature;
mighty soaring mountains rise curving into skies
over yawning savannahs, where she harvests
and roars in the night, to bear and feed young
and she is falling waters massive and strong
the dense canopy that breathes for the world
and the nest of mighty oceans quarreling at her feet
competing for her windy laughter and cool touch;
Africa was the womb of mankind, first tears shed
for lost children and unfeeling man.
Moon witnesses the climb and descent
great and small come to dust; and Africa
shone like the sun, brilliant lights
eclipsed by want, pain and neglect,
sometimes baleful, sometimes glad; always eyes
upon worlds of her children’s children
Africa, first and last.
Made by will to persist
faith upon prayers, and hope upon her lips
calling her blessings, come home.

Congratulations with the silver!
This is indeed a wonderful poem, where you have shown the colours of Africa, its sound and sights as well as its pain and sorrow. There is such a passion on your voice, passion to the Black Great Woman called Africa.
Excellent.

"Africa, first and last.
Made by will to persist

calling her blessings, come home."
How beautifully you have spoken of Africa ... the land of my ancestors ... the spirit of a land that still courses thru my veins. Your vivid words and images let me experience her in all her glory and let me hear her sing her "songs of life". An amazing piece!
