What Would Peace Look Like?

Missing image
It isn’t about peace or war?
It’s about greed
And manipulation.

It isn’t about who started it,
Or who’s to blame,
It’s about who ends it.

Fighting for Peace,
The quintessential contradiction
Akin to fornicating for chastity

It isn’t about ideological differences,
It’s about tolerance and understanding,
Or lack thereof.

It isn’t about Communism
Or Capitalism,
It’s about karmic correctness.

It isn’t about supply crisis,
To feed the hungry,
It’s about the lack of will to manifest.

It isn’t about social alienation,
It’s about indifference
From vacant and distorted hearts.

Forgiveness is to strength
What rancor is to weakness,
What love is to peace.

What would peace look like?.

Author notes

I was at a Night of Artists event a while back that was promoting 8 minutes of world peace to be held Aug 8, 2008. One of the performers spoke about peace and what that might look like at an every day personal level. For instance what does peace look like if someone in front of you jumps a queue at the check out line or cuts you off in traffic? How do we manifest peace in these moments and avoid creating more havoc and turmoil in our lives and the world around us? If peace doesn’t start with us, then where will it? We cannot legislate into law the open heart required to manifest authentic peace; it has to come from each of us on our own volition. It’s as simple and complex as that.

These days the only legitimate group we can belong to is the Citizens of Planet Earth, we’re on this ship together; we all deserve to be here. There is a way, let love be the compass.

Please tell me what you think

I had the chance to get it. Today in fact. I had to fill up a sold customer's car. I'm not supposed to leave the store as the manager so I was trying to hurry. Gas costs a bazillion dollars and I was blocked pulling in to the station by another driver pulling in from the otherside of the parking lot. She was determined and I backed off. I even shut down my emotiional explosion. It was strange for me turning around and pulling in from the otherside without anger. Your piece is peace and I was there today. RC

Ahhh, Henri... a conversation I've had recently, though not nearly so eloquently put. It does start with us and every bit of negative energy we dump into the Universe adds to it. What a beatuiful bit of writing and a profound bit of truth.

The pleasure (and enlightenment) are all mine.
This is as lovely a read the third and fourth time as it is the first.
Cheers, Henri- those soft smiles give a girl renewed hope in humanity!

    Powerful!

This is a great reminder for us all to pause and remember that change always begins with ourselves.

There is so much truth in your write, but this stanza struck me especially deeply. Nice write! blessings, Patty

    AMEN!!!

Agree with you completely...being busy, tired, sick or heartbroken are not excuses. Peace is the only way to get through our time here.

Very touching, teaching, inspirational indeed. Working FOR peace, instead of fighting against something, praying ceaselessly and accepting love, accepting, period. Many thoughts spring from this reading. Well done.

a utopic write to be sure, a dream that we shall no doubt never see. (I'm reminded that 'utopia' is a word that roughly translated means "at no time"--in other words, never-neverland.) We may pray for peace, but the dogs that run things will continue to prey for war. (I think i feel the beginnings of a new write forming in my head) thanks for the inspiration.

Very idealistic view of the world. I think that peace is a noble concept and something to strive for. Unfortunately, I also believe that there are people who will not follow the ideal and will work to enslave others. As long as this condition exists "fighting for peace" will not be an oxymoron.

Nonetheless, I support the concept of promoting world peace and hope that it goes from 8 minutes to 80 and then on and on.

It is a nice poem with a noble purpose.

You present interesting and valid observations in your poem, with some interesting proposals on how to manifest peace.

    My regards.

Even our verbiage is erroneous when "Fighting for Peace". It seems to me that peace is our natural state…it is our egos that get in the way.

Indeed, we all live one this one small blue-green rock and it is becoming clearer day by day, with all the weather related disasters that we must take care of each other and assume our long neglected position of custodians of this planet!

When we remember our place…perhaps we can begin to find peace!

    Marvelous work!
