Bush, never thought that word would be used in a bad way. But theses days seems everyone hates him and or the word itself in any shape form or fashion. Gotta be honest though, as many fuck ups as he has pulled. I can't really hate him for the decisions he has made.
Now I know there are a thousand people who are going to read the above statement and say 'are you nuts' or 'you must not understand what's really going on'. So let me say this before I move on to discuss what I would have done differently.
On the grand scale of things you are blaming the easiest target, Bush, has screwed up many many times, but you (that is the people) have allowed him to do so. Remember it is,for lack of better terminology, your god given right to decide your future and control your destiny. So here we all sit blaming BUSH for all his mistakes when in truth we ALLOWED him to do so. It is easy to take down one person, but a mass united under one goal (a belief we as a country were founded upon) is unstoppable. So why is it that we (myself included) sit here and judge and bash and bitch about what we would have done differently, when we had the power all along to do so and NO ONE choose to.
Now that being said Im about to make BUSH look like a saint.
Speaking of 9/11 first, a devastating day to the people of this country. The first homeland attack sense the day we took our freedom. Bush fallowed by lunching a full out war on... Terrorism. First difference. Rather than trying to take down an entity so vague as 'Terrorism' which has no true form to attack, because anyone anywhere can be a 'Terrorist' (Thus is why we use the word Terror as the root word; intense, sharp, overmastering fear [Dictionary.com]) I would have gone for the locations they were believed to be hiding in. Proceeding this invasion with one rule, destroy anyone or anything linked to this attack. Yes, I would level the city if need be, and anything that tried to stop me. Cold and merciless, this is the only way, to me, to stop something as grand as terrorism. Make the people so afraid of you that by the end of it all, if there is anything left, they will spend the next three generations rebuilding there lives.
Moving on to troops deployed in IRAQ/IRAN.
They signed the paper. They agreed that should the time come and the country called they would lay down their lives to protect our freedoms. BUSH, although slow, has been pulling soldiers home from their tours of duty. I would not, granted I don't believe with the above statement that the war would go on for as long as it has. Yet even still if it did, the soldiers would be there. This is what we have trained them for this is what their purpose is, don't agree with the life don't sign for it.
Speaking of training. Their have been reports that we are over there training soldiers to combat this war on terrorism. Sorry wouldn't happen if I had control, play with fire your gonna get burned. All were doing now is arming them and setting ourselves up for the next big attack. Crush their military, confiscate the munitions for the American armies (Less out of our pockets). Take the oil for the American people.
Ah, good old oil. The black gold. The one thing everybody has a 'strong' opinion about. We as a nation are slipping into a depression and as the gas prices/merchandise rises are wages are garnished if not by the failing economy then by the hundred plus it costs to fill your tank. Recent events have arisen, seems Japan (maybe China) has begun drilling off the Keys for oil. Oops we missed out. Bush t...t..t...tends to stutter over this topic, knowing full well he has no real answers. I pose a very simple and very logical solution. STOP trying to band aid the issue and fix it. Oil will run out its bound to happen there are so many taps and they are running dry. Rather than producing the newest 'hybrid' that gets fourty-eight miles to the gallon (That no one can afford). Endorse the people out there that are fighting the oil companies (yes they have control of the white house.) because they have found solutions/renewable resources. Though most people will never see the final products because they are either taken out (as in dead, if you don't understand my terminology) or bought out. Honestly I can't blame the oil companies, would you want to lose seventy million dollars a month, would you honestly give that up with out a fight? Though it is this small fact that is screwing us up so bad. Should the choice be mine to make, I think its time to usher in a new form of fuel and means of travel. Offer up trade ins on the gas guzzlers, give people a reason to switch to a cheap/free CLEAN renewable resource. Afraid of the oil companies? Remember what I said before; one person can be taken out easily, a mass is unstoppable.
Take a breather. By now Im sure you all are looking at me as a cold hearted, big talking, bastard. It's fine I won't hold it against you if you do. Im not entering this contest to 'Win Friends and Influence People'. Truthfully I hope these thoughts enrage you, I hope you grow to hate me. For you see if you do, it's cause I've made you think, question, or doubt something. Maybe it's something so small as how big of a person you think you are. Your still reevaluating things. Now if you want to read on please by all means continue and please by all means post your thoughts/critiques. I want that from you as a reader. Gives me a chance to reevaluate myself and where I stand.
Moving on... Healthcare, in this Im going to include poverty, housing, and schooling. My reasons for doing so to me all apply to living a healthy long life. To start let's refresh ourselves on the medical(Hippocratic) oath.
I swear by Apollo, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses, to keep according to my ability and my judgment, the following Oath.
To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him; To look upon his children as my own brothers, to teach them this art.
I will prescribe regimens for the good of my patients according to my ability and my judgment and never do harm to anyone.
To please no one will I prescribe a deadly drug nor give advice which may cause his death.
Nor will I give a woman a pessary to procure abortion.
But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts.
I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest; I will leave this operation to be performed by practitioners, specialists in this art.
In every house where I come I will enter only for the good of my patients, keeping myself far from all intentional ill-doing and all seduction and especially from the pleasures of love with women or with men, be they free or slaves.
All that may come to my knowledge in the exercise of my profession or in daily commerce with men, which ought not to be spread abroad, I will keep secret and will never reveal.
If I keep this oath faithfully, may I enjoy my life and practice my art, respected by all men and in all times; but if I swerve from it or violate it, may the reverse be my lot.
To summarize the above (The Original Greek Version). A doctor is to treat all patients equally and fairly. To service them to the best of their ability. Never to allow the faults of man (Greed, Lust, etc) to obscure their vision/judgment.
Now dose this sound like the healthcare within America today? And the answer is... No. To start I would wipe the slate clean, doctors are here to help, not for the pay. Practices would only be allowed to bill for cost of the operation (i.e. materials specialty equipment upkeep.) The paychecks for these people who care so much for the good of their fellow man would be granted via the government. Never again would someone die from lack of funds. Your life is priceless, there is no value for it.
Speaking of value, ever given the beggar change? Why? No not why did you give it to him/her, why is he there? Rather than dropping a few bills next time you pass a beggar sit down and ask him why he/she is there and not in a home. Sad stories. Now there are hundreds of shelter,half-way homes, and outreach programs out there. Once again BAND-AIDING the issue. Solve the problem, instead of offering the first hundred homeless through the door a bed and a warm meal. Offer them a job, and a reason to live. Bill Gates, Donald Trump, P.Diddy, the list goes on and you know what they all have in common (They all have more money then sense). Pause, but what about the thousands without jobs that are not homeless? The solution covers both, SPEND the money on something PRODUCTIVE. Rather than buying a new island somewhere in the south keys force (if necessary) the people with money to help lift the rest of America to their status. When you fell down as a child what was your first reaction? To reach for mommy or daddy for a hand up. This is a fact of life in order to achieve a higher level of living (pacifically) one must be surrounded by those willing to help lift you to said standing.
Final notes.
I know this probably strayed a little close to if not over the edge of the contest rules, therefore I will apologies for that as well as any foul words that may have slipped between my finger tips.
The whole point of this was to make you relies that change is possible. Hell it's bound to happen. The question is when the time comes will you stand and help the change or sit back and bitch about it later? NO ONE controls you NO ONE owns your life, if you want it and your willing to do what it takes your 'it' can be yours. I wish I hope I pray that one day when it's all said and done we... Humanity, can look back on this generation and those before us, and refer to us as 'The Second Dark Age'. I Hope and pray that one day humanity will relies that there is no difference between us, flesh of flesh blood and bone. And I hope when that day comes humanity as a whole can lift itself to a level of enlightenment that ends all issues. It is possible, it is within our reach, just no one will take the leap to pull it into the rest of ours reach.

Very good
VS,
I read this when you posted it but was not able to sit down and really study it until today. Sorry for the delay in commenting. I find you to be very intelligent and aware of what's going on. I agree with much of what you said. However, if I were to analyze each piece in this contest point by point, I'd be here for a month. If you'd like me to, just ask and I'll make the time. The only thing that bothered me about this piece were some spelling and punctuation problems, which I admit are minor in importance compared to the content. However, one thing that really bothers me is to see an intelligent essay such as this defaced by such minor mistakes that are easily avoided, or corrected. Therefore, again, if you'd like me to make some suggestions, let me know and I will. In the end, you balanced the contest requirements without Bush-bashing, which some seem unable to resist doing, and your points were delivered astutely and with passion. For that, I can overlook the technical errors.
Thanks,
Mark
