O my Daddy, big and strong
You stand like a mighty tower,
I am so little in your sight--
So weak, yet you have such power!
I'm nothing like--you, my Dad
And yet I am wanting to be,
Will ever I be like you, too--
So you--can be so proud of me?
I know that you, work so hard
To provide for our family,
You seem to miss out on the fun
That you've--made possible for me.
Oh Dad I wish, for your sake
That you would have more time to spend
So I could be around you more--
For You--are my Hero and Friend!
I'm growing up, and I hear
Some say I'm looking more like you,
I hope they mean all they have said--
For me--it's but a dream come true!
For Dad you are, "The Greatest!"
And can whip all the others too!
I'm sure glad you are My Father--
But it's hard filling up your shoes!
I've hit my teens, and wonder
You are not the same dad I knew,
You don't let me have my own way--
You don't--like the things that I do.
I just must be--my own self
Your old fashioned ways are a bore!
You're not how I had imagined--
I'll be--glad when I'm out your door!
I tried my way, and failed
I've made a big mess of my life,
I foolishly wanted Freedom
But found--only trouble and strife.
Father can you--forgive me?
I know your wisdom is best,
So long, I've stood in your shadow--
Thank God, I was blessed with "The Best!"

This is a beautiful tribute to a Father and an acknowledgement that perspectives change over the years but in the end an even greater respect is in place for that beloved Father. Very well written dear Brother.
