Slipping slowly from my reach

We seem to be
hanging on by the
barest of threads
the slightest shiver
of the wind
will blow you away
from me

we hurt
ourselves
in the knowledge
that we can't save
ourselves
from us

thin?
just an excuse
just a way of
feeling real
of getting them
to see that we're
real.

but it fails,
and they don't see
because we can't
show them and it seems
pointless

but i can't save you
anymore than you
could try to save me
i don't think i'll ever be much
good to you

but i want to help you
i don't care for me
so i shut my eyes and

I grab your hand,
but your fingers are numb
and you're slipping slowly
from my reach
down
down
down
further

gone.

Author notes

I seem to lose the power of speech you're slipping slowly from my reach.
