I felt like I was dreaming, instead I was awake
but as I reached for your hand I found I was too late.
The movie screen reflected golden sunlight on your face,
and I watched you laugh and smile with
amazement at your grace.
It was an old time movie, Micheaux would have been proud
'cause everything we did never cost us anything.
As I watched you watching I saw your lips were moving
but I couldn't hear you speaking, the music was too loud.
I began to understand you, the titlecards were helping
but by the time I knew your feelings the scene had changed.
We were standing on a cliff, grey flowers all around us and
your dress flowed around you though I didn't feel the wind.
I heard sounds like flowers growing or snowflakes as they fall
and before I turned to you, I knew what I had found.
Your tears fell like flowers
dropping petals slowly down,
soft and gently from your eyes
alive they hit the ground.
I couldn't lift my arms, reality's a bitch
and old people were all around us, I knew I couldn't cry.
It makes it kinda easy to know you'll be around,
in my dreams when I am lonely or when there's too much sound.
Our hands are linked together, two trees joining paths,
and I felt a light surround us as the credits went past.
